Brazen criminals target SPCA for a second time this year

The Newcastle SPCA was again the target of brazen criminal[s] on Sunday night (November 10) when an attempt was made to burgle the premises on Samson Drive in Barry Hertzog Park.

It’s believed the incident occurred between 21:00 and 22:00 when Magenta Security received an alarm alert.

A response guard was immediately dispatched, and according to the guard, when he arrived, he saw that an office light was on which he deemed to be ‘out of the ordinary’.

Upon inspecting the property, he found the door to the inspector’s office had been broken for the criminal[s] to gain access to the building.

It is not yet clear what has been stolen as SPCA staff are not permitted in the offices until forensic investigations are complete.

Heather Gero thanked the staff of Magenta Security for their fast response.

“Without them, the damage would have been so much worse,” she said.

Further inspection revealed that the CCTV cameras had been tampered with prior to the burglary, allowing the criminals to move around the property without being spotted.
