Police clamp down on criminal activities in February

Firearms remain the weapon of choice that criminals use for murder, attempted murder and armed robberies

The office of the provincial commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal released their statistics for February on Monday. Police in KwaZulu-Natal recovered 287 firearms and made 11,007 arrests for various crimes.
Firearms remain the weapon of choice that criminals use for murder, attempted murder and armed robberies. During different operations, 151 suspects were arrested for murder, 159 for attempted murder, and 217 for robbery (including those with aggravating circumstances, carjacking and cash-in-transit robberies).

Meanwhile, 217 suspects were arrested for rape, 37 for sexual assault, and 2547 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and common assault. Regarding property-related crimes, 439 suspects were nabbed for burglaries at residential and business premises, stock theft, as well as theft of and theft out of motor vehicles.
626 dangerous weapons – including 562 knives, 12 axes and 20 machetes – were removed from different communities. 163 suspects were arrested in the process. 569 undocumented foreign nationals were arrested for contravention of the Immigration Act.
1107 people were arrested for liquor-related crimes such as drinking and being drunk in a public place, illegal dealing and distribution of liquor, and illegal macro manufacturing of liquor. Police also recovered 34 cattle, 46 goats, 33 sheep and four horses.
