Trauma awareness conducted by paramedics
To commemorate World Trauma Day, KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service staged a mock accident scene at AbaQulusi Private Hospital on Monday.
October 17 is World Trauma Day, an occasion that focuses on the importance of saving lives and attending to emergencies. It is also a day when awareness is raised and the public is educated about trauma-related issues.
To commemorate World Trauma Day, KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service staged a mock accident scene at AbaQulusi Private Hospital on Monday.
The mock-up was of a motor vehicle that had been involved in a collision, where two patients were in the vehicle and another patient had been ejected from the car. One patient was on lying on the ground and another was trapped in the vehicle.
The Fire Department used the ‘Jaws of Life’ to open the vehicle up so that the paramedics could assess and treat the patient inside.
Frikkie Bekker from KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service mentioned that, “If the patient is covered, it does not necessarily mean they are deceased. We cover a patient to protect them from the shards of glass and sharp metal edges while we are doing the extrication. The guys did really well in carrying out the scene mock-up.’’
