Amajuba CPF celebrates Heritage Day with culture and unity

Amajuba CPF marked Heritage Day with traditional attire, cultural pride, and youth empowerment messages.

The Community Policing Forum (CPF) in the Amajuba District hosted a Heritage Day event at Kingsley police station. The Amajuba District consists of 11 police stations, and its members gathered to celebrate their individual cultures and traditions. Despite the cold weather, people showed up in their traditional attire to showcase and honour different cultures.

CPF chairperson Mabutho Mtshali said that, “The main purpose of us gathering at Kingsley SAPS is to call upon all our young and old from this area to come and learn about Heritage Day, as well as to teach them to preserve their cultures and traditions. While we teach them about heritage, we also raise awareness that ‘crime does not pay’. We want our youth to shy away from criminal activities and instead focus on school and things that will better them and their families.”

Sergeant Masondo from Dannhauser SAPS’s Social Crime Unit commented that, “Heritage Day is a very important day, as we get to celebrate who we are. We want these young people to take pride in who they are and who they represent. We also want to teach them how to behave, especially as a girl child – young girls must keep themselves pure and carry themselves with pride at all times.”
Captain Sibiya from Kingsley SAPS concluded by saying that, “Our cultures and traditions are so important. One should learn and preserve them from an early age; young people must hold onto them tightly, as they will guide and show them the way at all times. Young people should always stand together and hold one another’s hand. In this way, they will go forward in life.”
