NOFTA celebrates fathers with memorable event
There were delicious snacks, exciting games, a sumptuous lunch and lively entertainment.
The Newcastle Organisation for the Aged (NOFTA) recently hosted a memorable Father’s Day celebration, bringing members together for a day of appreciation, entertainment and fellowship.
Members enjoyed delicious snacks, exciting games, a sumptuous lunch and lively entertainment, creating a joyful occasion filled with meaningful moments and shared memories.
The celebration honoured fathers and father figures, recognising the invaluable role they have played in their families and communities over the years.
A highlight of the event was an inspiring address by NOFTA chairperson Mr Morris Gajoo, who reflected on the significance of fatherhood and its enduring legacy.
Event highlights the lasting legacy of fatherhood
Gajoo explained that Father’s Day originated in the early 1900s in the United States as a celebration alongside Mother’s Day, and was first observed in South Africa in 1966.
Addressing the gathering, Gajoo said: “Many of you here have been fathers yourselves, and perhaps even grandfathers or great-grandfathers.
“You have seen the world change in ways your fathers could never have imagined. Yet, the essence of fatherhood remains the same: to guide, to nurture and to leave the world a little better for those who come after.”
He paid tribute not only to the fathers present but also to those who had passed away, acknowledging the laughter, wisdom, quiet strength and lasting influence they had shared with their families and communities.
Gajoo encouraged members to share their stories, life lessons, humour and resilience with younger generations, emphasising that one of the greatest gifts a father can give is the example of a life well lived.
He also recognised the many sacrifices fathers have made throughout their lives, praising their dedication, guidance and unconditional love.
“Your wisdom, gained through years of experience, has taught us valuable lessons that we will carry with us forever. Your stories, sharing both triumphs and challenges, have inspired us to persevere and strive for excellence,” he said.
Concluding his address, Gajoo thanked all fathers and father figures for being mentors, role models and pillars of strength.
NOFTA extended its heartfelt appreciation to everyone who contributed towards making the celebration a memorable and enjoyable occasion.
“Happy Father’s Day to all our elderly fathers and father figures. May their legacy continue to inspire generations to come,” he said.
