Water donations pour into dry Dannhauser
Amajuba District Municipality in Newcastle is responsible for the water supply to Dannhauser.

Hundreds of litres of water was donated to the Dannhauser community after the town was left ‘high and dry’ for weeks.
Mac Osman, who helped co-ordinate the effort, said that an ‘extensive indiscriminate drinking water distribution’ had taken place throughout the Dannhauser area (Mafusini, Durnacol, Philendaba and Darul Uloom) by Hazra Moolla and family of Dannhauser. This was made possible through contributions by Hasan Ismail (TFS), Yusuf Ali Mohammed and family, Akbar Ismail and family, and their respective friends – all from Dundee.
“It was truly a wonderful effort,” he said. The water crisis, apparently sparked by load-shedding among other issues, sparked a two-day protest in Dannhauser which saw the closure of the Newcastle/Dannhauser road at Koppie Alleen and last Wednesday in Dannhauser town, where burning tyres blocked roads.
Mayor S Kunene had earlier accepted a memorandum regarding the water issue from the protesters, and promised to take up their complaints.

Dannhauser resident Yashik Surajbolt said the town had been without water for 23 days.
“The water came back yesterday (Sunday). We had to collect water from tanks, but these tanks do not cover every street. The infrastructure needs to be repaired,” he commented.
