Search to continue for two men presumed drowned after their car washed away

Volunteers have come forward to assist with the aerial search

The search for the missing men whose car was washed away in the flooded Mpati Stream will continue today.

Yesterday an airplane and a helicopter were dispatched to conduct an aerial search. While several car parts were found, indicating the search is on the right track, the river was still too full and the debris of logs washed down made the search extremely difficult.

Police divers also said the current in the stream was still too strong to conduct an effective operation.

It is hoped that the water will subside this morning, before the predicted rains come again, to give rescuers a window period to retrieve the bodies.

The search will also continue on foot and anyone wishing to volunteer to assist is welcome to contact Preshu at  082 366 3335.
“Local pilot, Tom Honnibal, flew the private plane to assist with the aerial and we are extremely grateful. Many thanks to all those who have donated food to those affected by the worse of the flooding. This has been distributed,” said Mac Osman, who is assisting with the rescue efforts.

Food relief provided to those in the so called Red Camp – between Sibongile and the grain silos.
