Swift action results in the arrest of tavern robber by Umzinyathi police
Police in the Umzinyathi area say they are stepping up the fight against illegal firearms used to commit crime.
A quick investigation by Kranskop Detectives resulted in the arrest of one suspect following an armed robbery at a local tavern on Friday night.
Umzinyathi District SAPS spokesperson Constable Siyabonga Nkwanyana, said three armed men had entered the tavern and demanded cash.
The men fled with an undisclosed amount of money and alcohol.
The following day information was received that two suspects said to be involved in an armed robbery were on their way to Johannesburg and travelling between Kranskop and Greytown.
One suspect managed to evade arrest while another, a 25-year-old, found with an unlicensed firearm in his possession, was apprehended and will appear in the Kranskop Magistrate’s Court.
