Sithembile, Glencoe, abuzz as community tackles GBV to conclude Women’s Month

The occasion saw an outpouring of support and camaraderie, with delicious food and refreshing beverages served to all present. The highlight of the evening was the distribution of brand-new blankets to some lucky winners. This gesture underscored the event's commitment to making a tangible difference in the community.

The Sithembile Hall was abuzz with energy and purpose on August 29, where a community gathering was held. It was a meaningful charity event focused on gender-based violence and giving back to those in need.
The event, held in celebration of Women’s Month, was organised by Ward Councillor M Phakathi and his committee, in collaboration with the Glencoe Art Festival (GAF), a growing organisation dedicated to community enrichment.

The event featured distinguished guests and contributors whose efforts were instrumental in its success – including Nonhlanhla Majola from Umzinyathi District Municipality, whose motivational presence inspired all.

D Sithole, an environmental officer at EDTEA, provided valuable insights into environmental aspects relevant to community welfare.
Mfundi T Zwane graced the event with a heartfelt prayer, while Thokozani Kunene from SASSA highlighted the importance of social support systems. Mrs Malinga and Ms T Nsundwane from Social Development contributed to the event’s smooth execution; not forgetting Pretty Tstetsi of Endumeni Local Municipality, whose participation added to the event’s success.

The collaborative spirit not only highlighted the critical issue of gender-based violence, but also demonstrated the power of the community coming together to support and uplift one another.

The evening was a resounding success, leaving attendees inspired and grateful for the shared commitment to positive change.
A heartfelt thank you to all involved for their dedication and efforts in making this event a memorable and impactful occasion.
Ward Councillor Phakathi said he appreciated the support from friends, the Glencoe Arts Festival, and Endumeni Local Municipality. He thanked elderly women for their bravery, and the love and care they show to their children and families. “We love you for taking on the responsibility of bringing us up in these difficult times,” he concluded.
