Vote of no confidence still hangs over Endumeni Mayor

It was also said by the DA that he frequently arrives late for formal meetings, 'takes naps' and leaves proceedings for long periods of time.

The motion of no confidence against Endumeni Mayor Siyabonga Ndlovu has not been withdrawn. This is despite the meeting not being held last Thursday.
The DA filed the motion.
Cllr Saleem Abdool, who serves on the executive committee, said that Speaker Nsibande must still call a meeting and give seven days’ notice.
Cllr Abdool said he hopes the meeting will take place at the end of this week, but that remains under speculation.
The motion was called for after the DA accused Mayor Ndlovu of a myriad of misdemeanours, including incompetence in carrying out his duties, interference in the administration of the municipality and staff disciplinary procedures, and abuse of power and municipal funds.
He is also accused of misusing hired vehicles to the tune of more than R440,000 and using these vehicles for private transport; and racking up a monthly fuel bill of R30,000 for the mayoral car.

It was even said that he falls asleep during meetings and at public functions. He is further accused of leaving meetings for extended periods without any ‘reasons’.

These allegations have been denied by Mayor Ndlovu.

The motion concludes by fingering him for financial impropriety regarding his personal accommodation and for not declaring financial interests.
It remains to be seen if the motion will be successful.
In April, when the ABC tabled a motion of no confidence (supported by the ANC), the DA contingent was criticised for siding with the ANC.
Then Cllr Mdluli said that the ‘DA will regret the decision’.
