Dundee SAPS Station Commander Nyide goes casual after 30 years of service in uniform

Col BR Nyide led the Dundee SAPS and area through the unprecedented COVID-19 lockdown of 2020.

After 30 years of service in blue, nine of which he served as Dundee SAPS station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Richard Bonginkosi Nyidi has swapped his uniform for casual wear.

Colleagues and friends gathered last Friday to pay tribute to the man many described as a ‘leader who provided guidance’.
Nyide joined the SAPS in 1990 and climbed the ranks rapidly until his promotion to Dundee commander.

There were tributes aplenty, with Cllr Naresh Gopie recalling many tense situations during the KZN July 2021 riots.
The Covid-19 lockdown also came to mind.

“Despite many challenges, Nyide always sought an amicable solution,” Gopie said.
Nyide thanked his colleagues and friends for their kind words, and said he was looking forward to spending time with his family – but would keep in touch with his ‘precious friends in the service’
