Endumeni Municipality hit by a new crisis as Sheriff serves papers to attach vehicles
The new Mayor, set to come into office on Thursday, will find an overwhelming set of predicaments he will have to set about resolving to ensure the municipality is put on the right course to ensure service delivery.
The crisis hit Endumeni Municipality plunged further into turmoil this week when the local Sheriff served papers to attach 13 municipal vehicles – including four refuse removal trucks and a fire engine – after It failed to adhere to  meet the deadline to pay out nearly R1-million to a former employee who won his dismissal case in the Bargaining Council.
Sakhele Zulu, who was the Corporate Services Manager from 2019, was dismissed in 2023 on various charges including misconduct.
Commissioner P van Zyl ruled that the case against Zulu was procedurally unfair and he awarded Zulu 11 months salary amounting to over R996 972Â that the municipality was ordered to pay out by October 30.
When the municipality failed to do, Zulu’s attorney took further legal steps against the municipality which led to Sheriff serving the papers to attach the vehicles – one of which includes the former Mayoral vehicle, a Land Rover Discovery.
The latest crisis will add to the already overwhelming ‘in tray’ the new Mayor will find on his desk when he takes office on Thursday.
The municipality has been asked for a response and this will be published once it has been received.
