Community rallies together to reach out to Dundee family that lost everything
The town reached out in many ways to assist a family left devastated.
Courier readers rallied around to help following a house fire last Monday, where the Young family lost their home and all their possessions.
Shaun and Irene Young, and their family of three daughters, were left devastated when their home in Friis Street was gutted by a fire that appeared to start in the roof.
The cause is thought to be an electrical fault.
In the aftermath of the blaze, Pam McFadden, who lives in the area, launched a fund-raising drive.
As an historian, McFadden was particularly touched by the family’s plight.
The Friis Street house is one of the oldest in Dundee, dating back to the town’s founding fathers.
“I want to thank everyone who responded to the call to assist the Young family. The response has been incredible as our community came together to support a family in need.
“They do not need any more clothes now, but they will need bedding, curtains, towels, crockery and cutlery.
“Anything will help.
“For anyone else wishing to donate, I suggest vouchers so they can buy small appliances.
“If you prefer to make a cash contribution, I will ensure that it gets to them.
“If you have any furniture in a storeroom or your garage that you no longer use and that could assist them, this would also be appreciated.
“Once again, many thanks for all your support,” said McFadden.
A fund-raising campaign was done on Saturday at the Glencoe market for the grateful family.
