Dundee businesses say: No by-law enforcement is ‘p-ing’ us off badly

The non-implementation of by-laws is a long outstanding issue in Endumeni.

While business owners describe trading conditions in the town as ‘fragile’, the lack of by-law enforcement continues to get up their noses – literally.
Businesses in Wilson Street, near the Victoria Street intersection, are outraged that a Telcom box on the pavement has turned into a public urinal.
Many relieve themselves on the box after drinking at a nearby tavern, and one business owner said the matter is now out of hand.
“We have complained continuously to our councillor and the police, but nothing gets done.
“We are in a position now where customers are reluctant to come into the shops here because of the putrid smell of urine,” said one businessman who declined to be named.
The council has previously said that by-laws will be enforced, but up until now, business owners remain sceptical and have threatened to take matters into their own hands.
