Endumeni Councillors appeal to MEC to intervene in ongoing water crisis
Dundee, Glencoe and Wasbank residents have for years now been without water for days on end and the crisis appears to be something they have been forced to live with.

The seemingly never-ending water saga that has left most taps in Endumeni dry for years has prompted several Endumeni Councillors to write a letter to the KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, demanding urgent intervention into the crisis.
Glencoe and Wasbank have been especially hard hit with the upper parts of Dundee left without water for sometimes days on end.
Some Sibongile residents reported last seeing water in their taps over eight months ago.
The letter signed by Councillors Phakathi and Kheswa points out that many communities have resorted to having collect water from untested rivers and springs.
“There is never an explanation from the Umzinyathi District Municipality. The crisis is exacerbated by the ineffective intervention of using water tankers which do not come as often as required.”
The letter goes on to say that ‘tension inevitably builds up in the community borne out of frustration with massive protests already brewing which we are hoping could be avoided.”
The Councillors have appealed to the MEC to deploy a technical team of experts to assess the extent of the problem, and report on what are the root causes and make recommendations on what interventions are needed.
It is not yet clear if the MEC’s office has responded to the letter.
