Dundee Hindu Temple gears up for important kavady festival
The carrying of kavady symbolizes the carrying of one's burden and then resting it at the feet of the Lord.
The Dundee Hindu Temple extends warm wishes to the community for a blessed and peaceful 2025. As the new year unfolds, may it bring spiritual enlightenment and the fulfilment of all your wishes.

Vibrant Thaipoosam Kavady festivities will take place from Sunday, February 2, to Tuesday, February 11.
The temple invites all to partake in this significant cultural celebration, with activities scheduled as follows:
Sunday, February 2 – flag hoisting at 4pm (not 5.30 pm)
Friday, February 7 – Marieamman Kumbum at 18:00, followed by the chariot parade.
Saturday, February 8 –
Navagraha Shanti at 06:00.
Thirukalyanam at 17:30.
Sunday, February 9 – Public Kavady at 09:00.
Tuesday, February 11 – Main Thaipoosam Kavady at 17:00.
Flag de-hoisting at 19:00.
Important notice for devotees carrying Kavady on Main Thaipoosam Day:
Fasting commences on Sunday, February 2.
Participants are required to supply their own coconuts, flowers and lime, as well as decorate their own kavadies.
Fees are as follows: Obayams – R50; Paal Kodums and kavadies – R80 each.
Donations and payments for kavadies will be collected during the 10-day festival at the Dundee Hindu Temple.
Only those devotees and well-wishers who have made payments will be included in the obayam programme. To participate in daily obayams, please notify officials by January 28 for inclusion in the Main Thaipoosam programme.
Raffle sheets are being sold, with prizes to be announced during the Kavady Festival.
