Department of Economic Development seeks support for small business initiatives in Umzinyathi’s ural areas

The success of these projects is expected to have a lasting impact on the rural economy, providing both economic opportunities and social benefits to previously disadvantaged groups.

The Department of Economic Development, Tourism & Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) is ramping up efforts to support small businesses in rural areas within the Umzinyathi District, with a special focus on previously disadvantaged communities.
As part of its ongoing initiative to stimulate local economies and uplift marginalised communities, the department is reaching out to companies and individuals to support various community-driven projects.
The department’s initiatives encompass non-financial and financial support, aimed at helping small businesses grow and thrive.
Through these programmes, various local products are being cultivated and produced, including peanut butter, soya beans, beadings and more.

These efforts are designed to enhance the livelihoods of rural entrepreneurs and promote sustainable development in these communities.
Various organisations have already joined forces with the Department of Economic Development, Tourism & Environmental Affairs, contributing to the success of the projects and making a tangible difference in the lives of many.
However, the department is now seeking further backing from private sector partners to ensure the continued growth and success of these vital initiatives.

“We believe in the potential of these rural communities and with the right support, they can become self-sustaining and contribute significantly to the local economy,” said Mr Dhlamini, a spokesperson for the Department of Economic Development, Tourism & Environmental Affairs.
The department is urging individuals, businesses and other stakeholders to collaborate in supporting these important ventures, ensuring that the momentum for positive change continues to build.
