Man found dead in notorious vacant plot in Dundee’s CBD

Constant calls have been made by the municipality, SAPS and residents for the owner to take action and clean up the plot of land on Beaconsfield Street.

A man, believed to be around 28 years old, was found dead this morning, Tuesday,  in a shack on the notorious plot on Beaconsfield Street, opposite Eventide Home. Paramedics who arrived at the scene pronounced the man dead, with authorities suspecting that the cause of death was a drug overdose.

The area has long been a source of concern for both local residents and the management of Eventide Home, with the plot becoming home to many so-called “paras” or squatters. The land is heavily littered, and persistent calls have been made for the owner to remove the squatters and clean up the site.

Earlier this year, during a drive around Endumeni with members of the Endumeni Residents Association, Mayor Mkhize visited the plot. Shocked by the conditions, the Mayor requested that immediate action be taken to clear the land, which is said to be home to around 40 people.

Despite these calls, the situation has yet to change, and the plot continues to be a focal point of frustration and concern for the community.
