Concerns over accused’s health postpones Dundee SAPS clerk murder trial

A co-accused has already abandoned his bail bid. They are accused of the brutal killing of Simphiwe Ndlovu last November.

The bail application for accused Amandla Mthethwa resumed in the Dundee Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday last week in connection with the brutal murder of popular Dundee SAPS clerk Siphiwe Ndlovu.

Mthethwa (the second accused in the case) is applying for bail, while co-accused Mandla Mbuyisa has abandoned his bail bid.
During Wednesday’s proceedings, the state requested a further postponement, citing the need to obtain a medical report from Correctional Services regarding Mthethwa’s health. The Legal Aid defence attorney did not oppose the application. Both Mthethwa and Mbuyisa face charges of murder and armed robbery.

Ndlovu’s body was found at the side of the road in Sibongile on November 24. He had suffered multiple stab wounds to his head and body. Ndlovu was also known for his previous work as an intern at the Courier newspaper.

The matter has been postponed to May 19, when the state is expected to cross-examine the accused. The investigating officer is expected to oppose bail.
In a separate case, five suspects arrested last week in connection with an armed robbery at Exact Store on April 26 appeared in the Dundee Magistrate’s Court. The state has indicated its intention to oppose bail. That case has been postponed for a formal bail application.
