Sarel Cilliers welcomes new teacher, and celebrates top learners and sporting success

Former Gauteng educator takes up a post at Glencoe school.

Sarel Cilliers High School held a special assembly on July 22 to welcome learners back for Term 3 and to recognise academic excellence. The top-performing student in each grade was announced, as follows:
Grade 8 – Rylan Murugan (88.33%);
Grade 9 – Ruuvlin Soobramoney (89.22%);
Grade 10 – Meetay Parag (80%);
Grade 11 – Muhammed Shamsudeen Sadeq (83.86%);
Grade 12 – Iesayvaani Kali (93.63%).
The Blue Lion family also welcomed Mr J Fourie to the staff at the start of the term. Originally from Krugersdorp, Mr Fourie joins from Hoƫrskool Richardsbaai. He will teach Business Studies and Geography in Grade 10, and EMS in Grade 9.
The school hosted its Summer Sport Capping Ceremony on Friday to honour first team players in cricket, soccer and tennis. The event featured heartfelt moments and speeches, with Yousuf Abdullah as guest of honour and community leader Naresh Gopie in attendance.
Match results:
Soccer vs Harvest High on July 30:
U/15 boys won 1-0 (Man of the Match: Lwandile Nqoko);
First team boys won 2-1 (Man of the Match: Brandon Smith);
Cricket on Saturday – girls’ first team at Ferrum Super 8:
Beat Pongola (six runs), beat Vryheid (39 runs), lost to Ferrum (four wickets).
Boys’ first team vs Vryheid:
Vryheid made 83 all out; Sarel Cilliers won, losing just four wickets.
