Councillor addresses urgent Glencoe service issues during oversight visit

Councillor Abdool confirms Glencoe infrastructure problems are being addressed following oversight with municipal officials.

Ward 7 Councillor Mohamed Saleem Abdool has assured residents that critical service delivery concerns raised during his recent oversight visit to Glencoe are receiving urgent attention.

Councillor Abdool was accompanied by Endumeni Municipality’s technical director, Mondli Buthelezi, during a walkabout that covered the entire Glencoe area, including the industrial zone.

“We identified a number of pressing issues that need immediate intervention,” said Abdool. “These include major potholes in several streets, uncovered storm-water drains and manholes, as well as damaged or stolen streetlight cables.”

A key area of concern was Boundary Road, near Abattoir Street, where a portion of the road has washed away.

“I urge all residents to avoid using this road until repairs are completed. The technical director assured me that this section will be prioritised,” he added.

This road was also flagged during the first ‘drive-about’ with the Endumeni Residents Association when Mayor Mcebo Mkhize assumed office in February.

Abdool confirmed that gravel roads in the area have been scheduled for rehabilitation. “Streetlight poles currently lying on the ground will be removed, and damaged poles will be attended to using the crane truck. We are committed to addressing all identified concerns.”

Residents were also urged not to dispose of refuse, garden waste or plastic bottles in storm-water drains, manholes, road islands, pavements or vacant properties.

On the matter of smart meter installations by service provider CONLOG, Abdool stated: “At a recent council meeting, the chief financial officer and technical director assured councillors that no resident will be negatively affected. The transition to smart meters will be smooth and fair.”

Councillor Abdool concluded by pledging to monitor all progress and to keep the community informed as work continues.
