Dundee sewage leak finally fixed after years of complaints

Officials fixed a sewage leak after years of complaints, but residents fear a sinkhole and health risks remain.

A persistent sewage leak that has plagued residents of Indumeni Street and Commercial Road for years was finally addressed last week, when municipal officials unblocked a drain.

Residents said raw effluent repeatedly flooded into a property on Indumeni Street, despite repeated reports to the Umzinyathi District Municipality. One resident claimed she had battled the issue for more than two years.

Concerns remain, however, about what locals describe as a “massive sinkhole” where sewage continues to flow. Residents fear the hazard poses serious health risks, with livestock grazing nearby also potentially affected.
