Community elects new CPF leaders to strengthen safety in Umzinyathi

Community members elect new CPF leaders as police and public pledge to work together for a safer Umzinyathi District.

Strengthening ties between the police and the community remains a key priority in the drive to build a safer Umzinyathi District. This message was at the heart of the annual general meeting of the Umzinyathi District Community Policing Forum (CPF), held at the Dundee Detectives Lecture Hall last Thursday.

The meeting brought together several dignitaries, including District Commissioner Major General Francis Slambert, the Provincial Social Crime Commander, the District Deputy Director of the Department of Community Safety and Liaison, members of the Provincial CPF Executive Committee, and representatives from the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), who oversaw the election process.

In her keynote address, Major General Slambert emphasised the vital role of the CPF in building trust between the police and the community. She called for unity, collaboration, and shared responsibility in the fight against crime.

“Collaboration remains the cornerstone of safety and security in our communities,” she said.

Before voting commenced, attendees were guided through key elements of the CPF Constitution to ensure clarity and transparency.

The election process proceeded smoothly, resulting in the appointment of the following CPF office bearers:

  • Chairperson: Lloyd Kgotshane

  • Deputy Chairperson: Sinenhlanhla Ntshangase

  • Secretary: Zanele Sithole

  • Deputy Secretary: Yasmeen Maistry

  • Treasurer: Nondumiso Makhathini

  • Public Relations Officer: Dumiso Sokhabase

  • Additional Members: Mrs Sabela, Miss Xulu, Mr Busa Ndlela, Mr Sipho Masina, Mrs Sithole, Mr Zulu, and Mr Khanyile

In his closing remarks, newly-elected chairperson Lloyd Kgotshane pledged to lead a unified and effective CPF structure. He reaffirmed the forum’s commitment to working with all stakeholders to strengthen intergovernmental relations, improve service delivery, and promote safer communities across Umzinyathi.
