Wrestlers fight for honours at KZN championships in Glencoe
Glencoe hosted 125 wrestlers in a fierce battle for medals and KwaZulu-Natal team selection at the provincial championships.
The Rhino Wrestling Club hosted the KwaZulu-Natal Wrestling Championships at Glencoe Primary School on Saturday, drawing 125 wrestlers for the prestigious Orange Grove–sponsored event.
Five clubs travelled to Glencoe, with more than medals at stake – gold and silver medallists earned automatic selection to the KwaZulu-Natal team for the National Championships. Wrestlers from Volksrust, Newcastle, Richards Bay, Vryheid and Glencoe delivered contests of the highest standard, with several surprise results.
The local Rhino Wrestling Club performed strongly, with standout performances from Mpo Makautse, Teegan Coetzer, Ruan Eloff and Sandre Vorster. Wrestler of the Day went to Nduduso Madi, who impressed with his dominant display of power and skill. Annike van Rhyn also made a triumphant comeback, clinching gold.
Rhino management thanked supporters, including TFS, Jaco Schonken, Glencoe Jeug, Sinithemba Construction, and the parents and grandparents of wrestlers. Orange Grove provided refreshments and sponsored the medals, helping ensure the day’s success.
