Umzinyathi CPF calls for unity to fight gender-based violence
The Umzinyathi CPF urges unity among all sectors to fight gender-based violence and protect vulnerable community members.
The Umzinyathi District Community Policing Forum (CPF) has urged unity among all sectors of society to tackle gender-based violence (GBV) and crimes targeting vulnerable groups.
During a media briefing held at the Dundee SAPS Detectives Hall, the CPF executive addressed the rise in GBV incidents and attacks on the elderly, often linked to false witchcraft accusations – particularly in Msinga and Ematimatolo.
District CPF chairperson Lloyd Kgotshane said that ending these crimes requires collective effort and long-term commitment.
“We are calling upon all community stakeholders and crime-fighting formations to work collaboratively with us during the upcoming 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign and throughout the festive season,” said Kgotshane.
“It is through unity and shared responsibility that we can effectively combat GBV and protect our most vulnerable citizens.”
CPF pledges support for Umzinyathi District Commissioner Major General Francis Slambert
The CPF also expressed concern over the ongoing court case involving Umzinyathi District Commissioner Major General Francis Slambert.
The matter relates to a protection order application filed by an offender convicted of conspiracy to commit her murder, which has faced several postponements.
District CPF public relations officer Njabulo Sokhabase said:
“We stand with our district commissioner, who has become a victim through this process and continues to experience secondary victimisation. We urge the justice system to take a closer look at this matter.”
Despite the challenges, the CPF reaffirmed its confidence in the justice system and its commitment to lawful processes while remaining focused on community safety.
Through awareness campaigns, community dialogues and Izimbizo across the district, the Umzinyathi District CPF continues to raise awareness, strengthen partnerships and encourage residents to speak out against abuse.
Their message remains clear and unwavering:
“Say NO to gender-based violence and NO to the abuse of women, children and vulnerable groups.”
