Community football tournament unites Dundee and inspires local youth
A vibrant community football tournament in Dundee inspired young players and united residents in a weekend of sport and teamwork.
Dundee’s recent community football tournament has been hailed as a resounding success, bringing together young players, local leaders and residents in a spirited weekend of sport and unity.
Youth inspired through sport
The event, coordinated by Sibusiso Sikhakhane from Dundee—who represents the Umzinyathi area in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature for the MKP—drew 17 teams and enthusiastic community support. Sikhakhane expressed gratitude to everyone who made the event possible.
“The tournament was a great success, and we are grateful to all the participants and community members who took part,” organisers said. “The message of unity and discipline among the youth was well received, and we hope to continue hosting similar initiatives to inspire positive change.”
Adding to the excitement, several football legends attended, including former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana captain Innocent Mncwango, Goldworth ‘Junior’ Nathi Mlambo, and other notable players. Members of both the National and KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Parliament also joined the festivities, showing support for youth development through sport.
The weekend delivered thrilling matches and memorable moments. Tigers claimed first place, followed by Amavukane FC in second. Sbonelo Mhlungu was named Man of the Match.

Sikhakhane confirmed that the MKP plans to continue supporting such initiatives.
“We promise to keep promoting sport as a way to build discipline, unity and hope. Plans are already underway to expand these events to include more sporting codes and involve children from all communities,” he said.
