Community donates food parcels to support elderly woman in Dundee area

Community partners donate food parcels to assist an elderly woman and her orphaned grandson at a Dundee farm.

A 90-year-old woman living on Stratford farm, under the Dundee policing precinct, received food parcels and support this week as part of a community outreach initiative aimed at assisting vulnerable residents.

The elderly woman lives with a 16-year-old boy who is an orphan, making the household particularly vulnerable.

Community partners step in to help

Cst Siyabonga Nkwanaya, SAPS spokesperson, said the donation was led by the Dundee Social Crime Prevention Coordinator, together with members of the Community Policing Forum, a gender-based violence activist, representatives from the Department of Community Safety and Liaison, and members of the South African Police Service.

Food parcels and other essential items were handed over to the household to help ease daily challenges and offer practical support during the festive season.

“Organisations and individuals involved in the initiative included Dundee SAPS members, the Dundee SAPS gender-based violence activist, CPF members, Bean Binda Media, Lihlelicious Events, the Department of Education and Mr Manana.

“Role-players said the initiative formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen community ties and ensure that elderly and vulnerable residents are not forgotten,” Nkwayana said.
