DHS athletes excel with national honours and dominant winter performances

Dundee High's sport stars enjoy a day of exciting action against rivals, Vryheid High.

Dundee High School (DHS) and its athletes have enjoyed a period of outstanding achievement across cricket, netball, rugby, hockey and more, highlighted by individual excellence and strong team performances.
Kiandri Bierbaum stood out on the national stage during the CSA Division 2 National Women’s Cricket Week in Bloemfontein from March 29 to April 3.
Representing the KZN Inland (Moothee Ram Tuskers) women’s team for the third consecutive year, she played a key role in a highly competitive tournament. Her exceptional performance earned her the Tuskers Coffee Box Player of the Match award against eventual champions Eastern Province, confirming her status as one of the region’s top young cricketers.

Sports against Vryheid High School

Winter sports action against Vryheid High School (VHS) delivered an exciting and competitive day. The chess team led the way with a convincing 7-3 win.
The rugby matches were tightly contested, with the U/16 team securing a narrow 15-12 victory and the first team achieving a strong 19-7 win, while other sides fought bravely in close encounters.
The netball teams showed determination across all age groups, with the first team claiming an impressive 18-11 victory and the second team narrowly losing 13-14.
Hockey was another highlight, as the boys’ second team won 1-0 and the first team dominated with a 3-0 victory, alongside other mixed but competitive results.

Milestone for girls’ cricket

Dundee High School also celebrated a major milestone as five cricketers – Nakita Labuschagne, Mandie Conradie, Kiandri Bierbaum, Mia van der Merwe and Elisha Naidoo – were selected for the KZN Inland Tuskers U/16 and U/19 squads for 2026.
This achievement reflects their dedication and consistent performances.

In netball, several players excelled at the circuit trials. U/14 players Esethu Nkosi, Uminathi Maphanga, Enhle Mnguni and Jaeden Thompson were selected, with Ndalwenhle Mpanza as reserve. In the U/15 group, Angelique van der Merwe, Melokuhle Methembu, Langelihle Sibiya and Sethabile Shelembe earned selection, with Alwande Zwane as reserve.

At the Amajuba Sport Week, the first netball team delivered dominant performances, winning most of their matches convincingly, while the second team also impressed with strong victories and a draw, showing resilience and teamwork. The first rugby team demonstrated character at their tournament. Despite narrow early losses, they regrouped and finished strongly with a well-earned victory over Krugersdorp High, highlighting their growth, determination and potential for the season ahead.
