Police team busts nine in Osizweni
Among the arrests was a 44-year-old in possession of a full Mandrax tablet and eight small parcels of drugs.
An intelligence-driven, multi-disciplinary operation in Osizweni has resulted in nine arrests.
During the operation, conducted between July 30 and August 1, the first arrest was made on the second day after SAPS officials received a tip-off about a house in Section A from which drugs were being sold.
Lizzy Arumugam from Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications commented: “Members went to the house and arrested a 44-year-old suspect, who had a full Mandrax tablet as well as eight small parcels of powder drugs.”
The recovered drugs have an estimated street value of R900.
The following evening (August 1), following another tip-off, Osizweni SAPS members proceeded to a house in KwaGonokwakhe on the hunt for illegal firearms and possible stolen goods.
When police arrived, they arrested three suspects aged 27, 32 and 38, after recovering two 9mm (Norinco) pistols and one 7.62 [calibre] pistol.”
Also seized were 17 live rounds of ammunition, two 9mm pistol magazines and three cell phones.
