A 30-year-old woman escaped a possible abduction or even worse, rape, this morning (September 7) after innocently getting a lift from a stranger.

It all started when she hitched a ride from an elderly man driving a VW Polo near the Dunlop factory. She was on her way to town.

As they were driving along, the woman realised that the vehicle was heading in the wrong direction. When she asked the driver where he was going, he ignored her and simply drove faster.

The car ended up on a dirt road near Mkhamba Gardens. Fearing for her life, she jumped out of the moving vehicle as it slowed down and ran for her life. She was lucky to escape with only a few bruises and scratches.
