Mother of four gunned down and murdered on her way home

Sithembile Joyce Khumalo (40), a local paramedic and mother of four, was gunned down and killed on her way home from work on Monday, May 29.

The incident happened at 19:00 on the road between Utrecht and Osizweni.

Her boyfriend, Michael Shongwe, stated that the indicators that’someone was after Khumalo were impossible to ignore in the days preceding up to her death.’

According to Shongwe, he and Khumalo ‘did everything they possibly could to secure their home against the killers.’

“She (Khumalo) knew the hit men were coming for her…” said Shongwe. “…And she was terrified.”

“We were trying to ensure that, once the doors of our house were locked, nobody could get in to hurt Sithembile,” Shongwe explained.

Khumalo informed police at the Amajuba SAPS cluster office a few days before her death that she thought her life was in danger. One cop said, with tremendous remorse, that it was the last time he saw her alive.

She also texted her family members, saying she was afraid hitmen were being paid to kill her.
