Madadeni Court hands life sentence to Blaauwbosch rapist who was out on parole
The Madadeni Regional Court has handed Thobani Madida (29) a life sentence after he raped a 23-year-old Blaauwbosch woman in 2018, while out on parole for attempted murder.
The SAPS KwaZulu-Natal Division said the victim told the court that she was at Sizwe Jali’s tavern with Jali’s girlfriend and another patron who were consuming liquor.
Madida arrived and began to consume their liquor without permission. He was stopped by Jali, who requested that he not disturb customers.
Madida grabbed the woman, produced a knife, and stabbed Jali in the upper arm. There was an attempt by Jali to get a garden fork, but he could not do so as because of his injury.
Madida forcibly left with the woman to a nearby forest, where he instructed her to take off her clothes and raped her.
They then went to a nearby house, where she was repeatedly raped. The woman testified that she did not go with the accused voluntarily but was afraid of him because he had a knife with him.
In her evidence, the investigating officer, Constable Langa, said she had received a report that the accused’s family had tried to mediate ‘the matter and pay damages to the family of the complainant.’
