Following the brutal murder of a 63-year-old male in Schuinshoogte last week Thursday, Amajuba District SAPS Spokesperson Constable Nonjabulo Langa has officially released a statement regarding the matter.

According to Langa, Newcastle SAPS responded to the scene and found the man lying in a pool of blood. Initial suspicions are that he was brutally beaten.

“The deceased’s daughter informed SAPS members that, at around 20:05, she received a call from her cousin enquiring about her father’s whereabouts, as he had failed to show up for a planned meeting,” said Langa.

The cousin mentioned he had been trying to contact the deceased telephonically without success. Concerned, the daughter and her mother proceeded to the man’s house to check on him.

Upon arrival, they found the gate locked. After unlocking it, the daughter noticed the kitchen door was left open unusually.

“She proceeded to the workshop, where she discovered her father’s body lying between two vehicles.”

The blood-stained hammer and the victim’s mobile phone were found in his bedroom, along with cash placed on a side table.

“Although the home contained firearm safes, one had a broken key lodged in the lock while the other remained untouched,” said Langa.

Two DVR surveillance devices, one connected to the workshop and the other to the house, were reported stolen. The motive for the murder remains unknown and is currently under investigation by the SAPS.

“The suspects are currently at large. We urge anyone with information to contact Newcastle SAPS,” concluded Constable Langa.

The Newcastle Advertiser extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time.
