Authorities confiscate contraband in Waterval prison raid

A raid at Waterval Correctional Prison in Utrecht led to the seizure of drugs, cellphones, weapons, and other contraband, reinforcing prison security. Read more here:

Contraband, including drugs, was confiscated during a raid at Waterval Correctional Prison in Utrecht last week.

The operation was led by Utrecht SAPS Station Commander Lt Colonel FS Magudulela, Waterval Prison Area Commissioner Mrs Mdlalose, and other relevant stakeholders.

Authorities recovered and seized a variety of contraband items, including:

  • 134 baggage slops
  • 1 kg of dagga
  • 15 whoonga capsules
  • 20 cellphones
  • 7 batteries
  • 8 chargers
  • 4 SIM cards
  • 2 memory cards
  • 4 USB devices
  • 5 saw blades
  • 6 sharpened objects
  • 2 smoking pipes
  • 5 earphones
  • 3 broken glasses
  • Cash notes totalling R149.50

Amajuba District SAPS Corporate Communications Officer, Constable Langa said: “The operation underscores the ongoing commitment of police and prison authorities to maintain safety and security within correctional facilities.”
