Task team arrests wanted Johannesburg suspect on R34
Information received by local police has led to the arrest of a suspect wanted in Johannesburg, for whom a warrant of arrest had been issued.
Imran Ghafoor, of the Newcastle Crime Fighters Task Team (CCPA), said operational teams were alerted that the suspect was travelling along the R34.
“Members of the Newcastle Crime Fighters Task Team (CCPA), Newcastle K9 Unit (D Shift), Newcastle Traffic and the Newcastle Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit were immediately mobilised,” he confirmed.
Police arrest drug dealer in Newcastle CBD
A suspected drug dealer was apprehended over the weekend, and narcotics valued at more than R20 000 were seized following a co-ordinated police operation in the Newcastle Central Business District.
Imran Ghafoor, of the Newcastle Crime Fighters Task Team (CCPA), said the operation was launched after information was received, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
The operation involved members of the Newcastle K9 Unit (C shift) and the Newcastle Crime Fighters Task Team.
“During the operation, officers arrested a foreign national and recovered a large quantity of drugs, including 127 full Mandrax tablets, 36 parcels of rocks and 14 large parcels of crystal meth,” said Ghafoor.
The street value of the drugs was estimated at approximately R22 000.
“Well done to all members involved in the successful operation,” concluded Ghafoor.
