Sexual predator gets double life sentence for child rape
The boy's brave disclosure led to a 22-year-old rapist being locked away behind bars.
A 22-year-old man has been handed a double life sentence for the 2024 rape of a young boy.
Described as a monumental victory against gender-based violence crimes, Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications officer Lizzy Arumugam commended the Madadeni Regional Court for sending a powerful message to perpetrators who harm women and children within the Newcastle community.
Mother’s concern reveals the truth
According to Arumugam, the young victim fell ill at school, resulting in the teachers calling his mother to come fetch him. The mother’s keen observation prompted her to start asking him questions about why he felt sick.
“The child bravely recounted how the accused, who was known to the family, had lured him and his friend to a secluded area on September 30, 2024, where he sexually assaulted both boys, before threatening to hurt them if they ever reported what he had done to them,” explained Arumugam.
The matter was immediately reported to the police, which eventually led to the suspect’s arrest.
Court hands down monumental sentence
The Madadeni Regional Court found the suspect guilty and sentenced him to two life sentences on February 20, proving that there is no place in society for sexual predators.
Lieutenant Colonel Chapi commended the hard work and dedication of the investigating officer, Sergeant Thokozani Mdluli, which ensured a successful conviction.
“This outcome underscores the commitment of the Newcastle FCS Unit in protecting the most vulnerable members of our society,” Chapi concluded.
