Oversight committee keeps tabs on service delivery projects

Several service delivery projects were visited by the delegation

Progress on service delivery projects were inspected by an oversight committee on November 18.

The Chairperson of the Community Services Portfolio Committee Cllr Getty Mnikathi and the Chairperson of the Infrastructure and Technical Services Portfolio Committee Cllr Welcome Mbatha were joined by Ward 9 Cllr Mondli Madinane, Mayoral Executive Committee Members Cllr Musa Nkala on a visit to all projects that Inkosi Langalibalele Municipality Mayor Cllr Mduduzi Myeza launched during August and September.

Their task was to monitor the progress. The delegation visited the Estcourt Primary School Colita Bridge, Estcourt Town Rehabilitation Projects in the Central Business District (CBD), projects in Wembezi (all wards), the Lochsloy Bridge in Ward 15 as well as various projects in Ntabamhlophe.

“This oversight visit is testament to the fact that the municipality not only introduces contractors, but we also follow progress and ensure that projects are completed within allocated budgets and timeframes,” said the municipal communication team.

Cllr Mnikathi said “I wish to thank councillors and staff who’ve made themselves available for such an important exercise. An exercise of ensuring that we monitor and play an oversight role as we are mandated to by council, on municipal projects to ensure that municipal resources are efficiently and effectively utilised for the purposes they are meant to.”

She further urged contractors and consultants on site to ensure that they create relationships with the communities in which they operate and asked them to always liaise with the municipality on matters concerning their projects to ensure that they are never interrupted.
