Amajuba District Municipality prioritises economic development in the district

The meeting brought together entrepreneurs in rural areas and townships, the government and the private sector in engagement on development.

The District Municipality held a local development workshop at the Majuba TVET College in Madadeni on April 17 in a bid to engage with business partners as per the municipality’s promise from the previous workshop where they vowed to help local businesses ‘with anything they need to improve their businesses.’

During the workshop, the municipality awarded six entrepreneurs with R3500 each to help in their businesses.

In addition, the municipality awarded three businesses with a total of R100 000 in the Youth In Business Challenge Fund competition. The three lucky recipients were Khazimula Skin Care which received R50 000, Seeds of Restoration Construction (R30 000) and Black Channel TV which received R20 000.

In his address, Deputy Mayor of the Amajuba District, Thembelihle Mthembu, focused on the region’s rich agriculture and textile business which he urged the local businesses to take advantage of.

“Gatherings like this are very helpful as we can collaborate with local businessmen and come up with strategies that can help boost the economy of the region. After last year’s meeting, we thought it important to come back and evaluate how much growth we have achieved in the past year,” he stated.
