Assault case against mayor finalised through dispute resolution

The mayor apologised to the complainant, who accepted the apology, leading to the finalisation of the case.

The assault case involving Inkosi Langalibalele Municipality Mayor Mduduzi Myeza has been finalised in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court through an Alternative Dispute Resolution Method (ADRM).

Myeza was charged with one count of assault, following allegations that he had assaulted a fellow IFP member during a work-related event.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the matter was resolved through the ADRM process, which allows parties to settle disputes outside of a formal trial.

Both the accused and the complainant voluntarily entered into an informal mediation agreement, which was overseen by a senior public prosecutor from outside the Estcourt jurisdiction, as well as the acting chief public prosecutor.
