Mayor launches Easter road safety campaign
Newcastle Municipality launches Easter road safety campaign to reduce accidents and promote responsible driving over the busy holiday period.
Newcastle, Mayor Xolani Dube, launched an Easter road safety campaign on Wednesday, April 1, to enhance road safety and enforcement.
The municipality led a high-visibility road safety initiative over the Easter weekend, aimed at reducing road fatalities and promoting responsible driving behaviour.

Campaign
The campaign – a collaborative effort between Newcastle Local Municipality, the SAPS, RTI, KZN Department of Health and other stakeholders – has focused on raising public awareness of road safety and enforcing traffic regulations.

Easter holiday
With the Easter holiday season typically seeing an increase in traffic volumes, with many South Africans travelling to visit family and friends or attending religious gatherings, the campaign aims to promote safer road usage and reduce the number of traffic accidents and fatalities.
The mayor emphasised the importance of the initiative, saying:
“This long weekend is traditionally a period that sees a high rate of accidents and fatalities. Such campaigns seek to positively influence the mindset of road users.”
