Tourism takes a turn in a new direction
The meeting was adjourned to a later date to allow more locals the chance to register as tourism stakeholders

The local Tourism Association held their annual general meeting (AGM) on Wednesday last week at one of their stakeholders’ venues. Less than 30 people attended. However, the head of the Community Services Department in the Zululand District was there, since tourism falls under her scope of duties. Khabo Nene suggested that the CTO needs to revise their election process for the new committee so that it can include all the relevant tourism sectors, for example restaurants, crafters and transport. A CTO is an independent organisation that is responsible for the promotion of tourism establishments and tourism operators within a local area. According to the regulations, tourism service providers are required to register with their local CTO first, before registering with the department. It was also suggested that anyone who is interested in tourism can join these meetings, because tourism is part of everyday life. Mostly accommodation stakeholders have currently paid their registration fee as part of the election process. It was indicated by the current chairperson that they have a mandate that prevents people from joining these meetings if they don’t pay their annual registration fee at the tourism office.
The meeting was adjourned to a later date to allow more locals the chance to register as tourism stakeholders so they can attend these meetings. The election process will take place when more tourism sectors are involved in the next meeting.
The tourism office urges anyone who wants to be part of tourism to visit the office on the corner of Mark and Landdrost streets to be registered.
