Flood-damaged bridge to be refurbished

10 job opportunities for locals will be created by the project

Alfred Duma Local Municipality Mayor Zama Sibisi visited the community of Ward 27 yesterday (June 12).

The aim of the visit was to introduce a contractor who will undertake the refurbishment of the Emgodini low water crossing bridge in the ward.

Mayor Sibisi firstly noted the trauma that the community went through during the floods that washed away most of the municipal infrastructure. He said that, as the municipality, they aim to serve with integrity.

“Today, we are introducing the contractor named Messrs Mybuko Group that will be undertaking the refurbishment of the Emgodini low water crossing. This project is expected to take about six months to complete. It will create job opportunities for the local community, as the contractor will hire 10 people. The estimated cost of the project is R1,318,765.26,” said Sibisi.

The mayor further pleaded with the community to protect the new infrastructure and ensure that the project proceedings are not disturbed or challenged through theft or vandalism. He also urged community members to report any unsatisfactory instances or issues relating to the project to the ward councillor or to his office.
