Ezakheni police raise awareness about gender-based violence

Victims of abuse were encouraged to come forward and speak out

Ezakheni police station launched their ’16 Days of Activism’ campaign at the Ezakheni C-Section Hall yesterday (December 4).

Various stakeholders took the podium to share information on topics related to gender-based violence (GBV).

The aim was to encourage those who are experiencing abuse to speak out.

The message was that everyone should play their part by: acting and not looking away; not protecting abusers and instead reporting them; not engaging in abusive activities yourself; and being sensitive and supportive to GBV victims.

Men were not left out at this event. They were encouraged to report any abuse they encounter, as men can also be victims of abuse.

The ’16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children’ campaign takes place between November 25 and December 10. Similar campaigns are being held in different areas across the country.
