Department of Social Development plants seeds of hope
The Sivande Project received water tanks, fencing, gardening equipment and seeds from the Department of Social Development.
The Sivande Project in Sasko was recently visited by the departments of Social Development and Agriculture. The purpose of the visit was to hand over tools, equipment and fencing to Mr Ntshangase and his team, donated by the Department of Social Development.
The Sivande Project is described as a positive and uplifting initiative to cultivate fresh produce for the community.
“I am in full support of this project and what it symbolises for our Sasko community,” said Cllr Elaine Rodway, who was in attendance. “I am grateful for the support that our community has received from the Department of Social Development, who donated this much-needed equipment. Thank you to Mrs Nothando Ngobese and Mrs Sizile Ziqubu, as well as Mr Sboniso Nkosi, a student from UFS-QwaQwa, who accompanied them to the handover.
“It was also an honour to have Mr Oscar Dlamini from the Department of Agriculture in attendance at this handover, and we are looking forward to future guidance and input from this department.
“Last but not least, I am grateful to Baba Ntshangase, who spearheaded this initiative and not only cultivates fresh vegetables but also has a community interest in the ‘One Home, One Garden’ concept of growing our own food, which is an initiative very close to my heart. I personally believe that everyone should be growing their own food, even on a small scale. There’s nothing quite like enjoying vegetables from your own garden, and even better if neighbours can come together and not only exchange produce but share ideas. I hope to see this initiative inspire our youth to foster an appreciation for agriculture; one of the most important industries there is. There is a saying that goes: ‘Once in your life, you may need a doctor, a lawyer, a policeman and a preacher. But every day, three times a day, you need a farmer…’ May God bless the soil in Sasko and throughout AbaQulusi, and may He protect this project and let it prosper.”
The Sivande Project received water tanks, fencing, gardening equipment and seeds from the Department of Social Development. This will surely go a long way towards contributing to the success of this project.
