Street soccer returns to Lakeside, promoting youth unity
Lakeside’s street soccer event united youth and showcased raw local football talent.
A ‘street soccer’ tournament was recently held in Lakeside, bringing together young people to revive their skills and show off their football talents.
The tournament was first introduced in 2023 by organisers Lucky and Chantel Ngcobo, in collaboration with Mnotho Mlotshwa and Malibongwe Masondo. Their goal was to work with young people, create a positive environment, and provide a platform for the youth to express their abilities within the community.
Eight teams participated in this year’s tournament. Lucky Ngcobo expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed, especially those who donated cash prizes, trophies and medals.
“We, as young people, are the future generation. We need the support of our community members. When the community is united, we can work together in trust. The community should always stand together and support one another,” Ngcobo said.
He also announced that the next tournament is scheduled for September, and appealed to local business owners and the broader community to continue supporting the youth.
