Okhahlamba Municipality leads clean-up drive in Bergville
The municipality urges the community to support this movement and engage in future clean-up activities.
As part of its ongoing Public Service Week initiatives, Okhahlamba Local Municipality Mayor VR Mlotshwa spearheaded a vibrant community clean-up campaign in Bergville today (July 16), reinforcing its commitment to a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable environment.
The mayor and other municipal officials rolled up their sleeves to clean various parts of the town, including the bustling taxi rank. The initiative aimed to promote public awareness around littering and encourage greater community responsibility in maintaining cleanliness.
In a statement by Okhahlamba Municipality, Mlotshwa stressed the importance of environmental hygiene, noting that a clean town reflects the unity and pride of its people.
“A clean town is a sign of a responsible and united community. We must all play our part in making sure our environment remains free of litter and waste,” he said.

Beyond the physical act of cleaning, municipal officials used the opportunity to engage with residents and business owners about sustainable waste management practices and the role everyone can play in keeping Bergville beautiful.
According to the municipality, this clean-up drive is part of a broader municipal strategy to build a more livable Okhahlamba – one where environmental care and civic pride go hand-in-hand.
The municipality has called on all community members to support this movement by adopting greener habits and participating in future clean-up initiatives.
