Estcourt Girl Guides celebrate International Girl Child Day
The attendees enjoyed lots of music and dancing.
Girl Guides around Estcourt couldn’t wait for the school holidays to be over so they could meet up and celebrate ‘International Day of the Girl Child’, which is observed on October 11.
Brownies, Guides and Rangers from different units got together at Drakensview Primary School on Friday, October 17, to celebrate and perform on stage. Fun competitions were held, as well as various learning activities.
Sifisosethu, Drakensview, Phumalanga, Muntuza and Themba primary schools were there in numbers. They were judged on how much they know about the World Flag, the meaning of the symbols, and Guide Laws, to name just a few of the categories.

Ms Nondumiso Khumalo, district commissioner of Girl Guides in Estcourt, expressed her gratitude to everyone who contributed to the successful day. “We were also celebrating 115 years of guiding. Special thanks to Mr Brits (Drakensview principal) and Miss NT Mtshali, who paved the way for us so we had a venue at Drakensview Primary. Our judges – Nomthandazo from Lukazi; Ntombenhle from Phasiwe; and Nomlindelo, a troop scouter – also did a great job.”
