Vryheid cyclists complete the 94.7 Ride Joburg race

Paul Steffensen and Jabulani Xulu represented Vryheid at this year’s 94.7 Ride Joburg.

Two Vryheid cyclists, Paul Steffensen and Jabulani Xulu, proudly represented the town at the 94.7 Ride Joburg cycling event last Sunday.

An impressive milestone for Steffensen

For Steffensen, this marked an impressive 11th time completing this iconic race. Both riders endured a long, hot day on the Joburg streets, with temperatures soaring to 32°C, but described the experience as rewarding and well-organised.

A race known for its festive atmosphere

The event, which attracts thousands of cyclists each year, features fully closed roads, creating a safe and festive environment for participants. The race starts and finishes at the FNB Stadium in Soweto, with supporters lining the route to cheer on the cyclists.

Support and spirit along the route

Along the way, riders are treated to festive water-points; and volunteers handing out chocolate bars, sunscreen and even chain lube, which added to the lively spirit that makes the event one of South Africa’s premier cycling highlights.

A memorable experience for both cyclists

Steffensen and Xulu both said it was a privilege to once again be part of such a well-supported and uplifting race.
