Themed, Nothing about us without us, the I Matter Foundation (IMF) hosted the Disability Indaba at the Osizweni Community Hall on November 11.
The Indaba was part of South Africa’s Disability Rights Awareness Month (DRAM) and brought together people with disabilities, families, government representatives, and community organisations to promote inclusion, accessibility, and equal participation for all.
It served as a vital platform for dialogue, sharing lived experiences, and identifying solutions to barriers faced by persons with disabilities in everyday life.
With the support of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government and local municipalities, the conference encouraged collaborations among stakeholders to build more inclusive communities.
During the sessions, speakers emphasised that disability is not a limitation but a call for society to adapt, include, and empower.
Participants shared personal journeys of resilience, highlighting the importance of education, employment, mental health, and community support.
“The IMF believes inclusion starts with awareness and grows through action. Every person has value, every person matters,” said Nomasonto Motsitsi, founder and CEO of the foundation.
