Fuel prices will drop sharply this week, with diesel users set to benefit the most from the latest adjustment.

The Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources announced that the new fuel prices will come into effect on Wednesday, January 7, following a review of local and international market conditions.

Fuel price adjustments for January 2026:

Motorists will see petrol prices fall by 62 cents per litre for 93 octane and 66 cents per litre for 95 octane.

Diesel prices record the biggest reduction, with a cut of 137 cents per litre for 0.05% sulphur diesel and 150 cents per litre for 0.005% sulphur diesel.

Illuminating paraffin will also be cheaper, with the wholesale price decreasing by 110 cents per litre, while the single maximum national retail price drops by 148 cents per litre.

However, the maximum retail price of LPGas will increase by 21 cents per kilogram, and by 23 cents per kilogram in the Western Cape.

The reductions are expected to bring welcome relief to consumers, particularly motorists, transport operators and households that rely on diesel and illuminating paraffin
